Technically Art
Technique and skills are the building blocks of all art making. Join us to discover the foundation your student will need to build a successful lifelong love of art. We will focus on guiding the students through a framework of each art project while allowing them to still use their own creative energy to express ideas. Students will leave this class with more confidence in their ability to produce art that expresses what they are trying to say accurately and poignantly. Projects may carry over from week to week, all materials are included.
Art Impressions
The great master impressionist painters practiced techniques for years before attempting their own creative expression of ideas. We will follow their lead by studying the techniques of great impressionist painters and then use those newly acquired skills to create their own terrific landscapes and still paintings. We will then explore easy Batik techniques and finish the class with a dynamic mixed media self portrait that is perfect for boys and girls alike. With a focus on technique, students will gain self-confidence in their art making while creating truly "wall-worthy" paintings in which they will be proud. As always, independent thought and creative expression are the utmost priorities in this class, students can feel free to explore the materials and express their own ideas. Projects may carry over from week to week, all materials are included.
Art of the World
Discover the world around him in this exploration of the environment and art making techniques in different cultures. As we explore each different place, we will learn about an artist or type of art from that location and create our own geographically diverse and environmentally friendly art projects. Related music and stories will all be integrated into each class to enhance and support the students creativity and imagination. A variety of materials will be used and the focus of the class will be your child’s exploration of materials and expression of his or her own ideas. . Projects may carry over from week to week, all materials are included.
Stories of Art
Using books and stories to inspire the art making process, we seamlessly integrate fun books and lively tales into the art making process. During this class, the students will learn techniques in collage, printmaking, sculpture, and of course book-making as alternative materials to create art pieces that express their own ideas and imaginative concepts from each book or story. An emphasis on recycled materials combined with traditional techniques will help each student construct their art pieces to illustration what their “minds eye” idea of each story is. Class discussion and brainstorming is strongly encouraged to support a collaborative approach to art-making. Projects may carry over from week to week, all materials are included.
Mixed Media Art
Using mixed media techniques the students will explore self expressionist art through projects that include an autobiographical shadow box with altered photo techniques, mini lunch box theater using paper, fabric and luminere paints. Lastly the students will explore the world of MC Escher by creating thier own 3D sculptural representation of an abstract design.
